The Owner's Profile, Marco Carducci

Where were you born and where did you grow up?

I was born and raised right here in Calgary, Alberta.

Do you have siblings?

Yes. I have one brother named Alessandro, who is four years older than me.

Who introduced you to soccer? And how old were you when you started playing?

I come from a soccer-loving family. My parents and my older brother all love and play the game, so I was basically raised with soccer around me 24/7!

Who was your favourite player growing up?

Growing up, and probably still to this day, Gianluigi Buffon is my all-time favourite. I admired him growing up and always wanted to play like him.

If you could tell an aspiring footballer 3 things to achieve their goals and dreams what would they be?

  1. Trust and love the process. Like anything in life, there will inevitably be highs and lows and everything in between. Football is no different, so its really important to continue to work hard and stay level-headed no matter what happens.

  2. Always stay humble. When you are humble, you can see where you need to improve and will be open to learning from everyone around you.

  3. Commit to improving every day. Always do your best to add a small improvement to your game every time that you can. Whether that's on the pitch or off the pitch, find ways to make marginal gains.

How old were you when you decided to become a professional soccer player and fully commit your time to it?

Like many young soccer players it was always my dream to become a professional soccer player. But I think when I was around 13-years-old I knew that I really wanted to become a professional and I was ready to commit my time to working to make that dream a reality. Shortly after that point (when I was just about 15-years-old) I made the move away from home to chase my goal of becoming a pro.

What is something most people don't know about you?

I am very interested in the world of finance and see myself pursuing a career in the financial industry after my soccer career.

What is your favourite colour?

Blue. (Sky-blue to be specific!)

Other than soccer do you have any other hobbies/Talents?

I really enjoy reading and try to spend a lot of my free time working through my large (and growing) book list!

Did you attend or are attending university while you play soccer?

I began my professional career right after I graduated high school, so I never went to university in the traditional sense. But soon after my pro career started I enrolled at Thompson Rivers University and have since then been working away at my education via online learning. I'm currently completing a business diploma, but my end goal is to get a finance degree.

Where do you see yourself in 20 years?

Tough to say as that's such a long way out! But I hope that I'll be able to say that wherever I may be: I'm surrounded by people I love, I'm doing the things that make me happy, and I'm still learning and growing everyday.

How would your friends describe you?

I think my friends would describe me as someone who is very calm and mature. I'd also say that they'd describe me as someone who is reliable - both on the pitch and off of it.

Do you have any nicknames?

Among my teammates there are very few people that call me by my first name. Rather, I go by: Carducci, Ducci, Carducc, or Ducc.

Lastly, what is your greatest fear?

My greatest fear is knowing or realizing that I didn't put my full effort and commitment into something that was important to me, whether that's in my soccer career or in any other area of my life. As long as I truly know that I gave it everything, I'll be content with whatever the outcome may be.
